About this sheet

Two scrambled columns of five shapes: square, crescent, triangle, circle and oval, to be joined in pairs.
Every other matching sheet uses pictures of things. This one uses shapes, which are not things at all but properties, and that makes it the most abstract page in the whole collection of seventy six.
The circle and the oval are the pair to watch. They are the only two here that differ by proportion rather than by kind, so a child cannot rely on a shape having a distinct outline. They have to notice that one is wider than it is tall. That is a finer judgement than anything the other matching sheets ask for.
This is also the most directly useful sheet in the set for a child heading into nursery or LKG. Shape naming appears in almost every Indian preschool syllabus and in most nursery admission conversations, and it is rarely practised at home.
Say the names in both languages as you go. आकार is a word worth having.
