About this sheet

What is on the page, and how to get the most out of it.

Choti stands at the lower left and a yellow school bus at the upper right, connected by a dotted path of tall standing loops.

This is where the routine set gets properly difficult. The loops rise and fall while the whole path travels upward and across, so the hand is doing a repeated local movement and a steady overall one at the same time.

A loop also crosses back over its own path, which is the movement that separates writing from drawing. Nothing earlier in this set asks for it. If your child has done the loops and spirals line tracing sheet, this is the same skill inside a story.

Expect loops that do not close, or a path that flattens out as it goes. Both are normal and neither is worth correcting hard.

The bus is also the point in the morning where a child either makes it out of the door or does not, which tends to make this the sheet they recognise fastest.

What your child practises

Tall repeated loops climbing across the page, which is the hardest movement in this set.

  • Crossing a stroke back over its own path
  • Repeating a loop while travelling upward
  • Closing loops rather than leaving them open
  • Combining a local and an overall movement

Common questions

My child’s loops do not close.

Normal, and not worth correcting hard. Closing a loop means judging where the stroke started while the hand is still moving, which is genuinely difficult.

Which sheet should come before this one?

The loops and spirals line tracing sheet, if you have used it. It practises the same crossing movement without the added job of travelling across the page.
