About this sheet

What is on the page, and how to get the most out of it.

Choti stands at the top of the page and her toothbrush sits at the bottom, with a dotted line running straight down between them.

This is the first sheet in the morning routine set and the simplest. One straight vertical line, no curves, no corners, and a picture at each end. A two or three year old can complete it on the first try.

The routine set does something the other tracing sheets do not. Instead of practising a shape for its own sake, each line connects Choti to the next thing she needs to do, so a child is following a story rather than completing an exercise. That difference is worth more than it sounds for a child who has decided worksheets are dull.

It also gives you a way into the conversation about the actual routine. Doing the sheet before brushing, and naming what comes next, turns a worksheet into a small piece of the morning rather than something separate from it.

What your child practises

A single vertical line with a purpose at the end of it, which makes this the gentlest sheet in the set.

  • Drawing one controlled vertical line
  • Connecting a start point to an end point
  • Following a sequence with meaning
  • Talking about the morning routine

Common questions

Which morning routine sheet should we start with?

This one. It is a single straight line down the page, so a two or three year old can finish it on the first attempt.

How are these different from the line tracing sheets?

The line connects Choti to something she needs, so your child follows a small story rather than repeating a shape. It works better for children who find plain practice dull.

Can we use these as a routine chart?

They are tracing sheets rather than a chart, but printing several and putting them up in order works well as a simple visual routine for a young child.
