What is on the page, and how to get the most out of it.
A dotted ball to trace and colour, a dotted uppercase B below it, and the line B for Ball.
A B is a straight line down the left side with two bumps attached to its right, drawn as two strokes. The straight line is easy. The two bumps are where it goes wrong, because they need to be roughly equal and both need to return to the spine rather than floating free.
B is also half of the most common letter confusion in early writing. B and D share a vertical line on the left and a curve on the right, and the only difference is that one has two bumps and the other has one. Children mix them up for a long time, and it is a shape problem rather than a reading problem.
The ball is the easiest picture in this part of the alphabet. It is a single circle, so a child who finds the letter hard can still trace and colour something successfully.

Common questions
My child keeps mixing up B and D.
Very common, and it is a shape problem rather than a reading one. Both have a straight line on the left and a curve on the right, so the only difference is the number of bumps.
Should we do B and D on the same day?
Better to space them out at first. Once each is comfortable on its own, putting them side by side deliberately is a useful way to compare.
