An R is a P with a diagonal leg added at the bottom of the bump. Three strokes, and it completes the family that started with P and passed through B.
The leg is the whole difficulty. It has to start where the bump rejoins the spine and travel down and out to the right, which means judging both a starting point and an angle at once. Legs that start too high, too low, or run almost straight down are all ordinary.
If your child has already done P and B, say out loud that this is the same letter with a leg. Children who hear the relationship described tend to produce the letter more reliably than those who meet it as a new shape.
The rainbow is the best tracing on this page for a young hand: several arcs running parallel, each one a repeat of the last, which is steady practice at a curve without any join to judge.
