A V is two diagonal strokes meeting at a point at the bottom. Fewer strokes than most letters, but diagonals are the direction young hands manage last, and a meeting point has to be aimed at rather than simply reached.
What usually happens is a V that is too wide and shallow, or one where the two lines cross past each other at the base instead of stopping. Both are ordinary. The point closing cleanly is one of the later things to arrive.
V is worth doing before W rather than after. A W is two Vs side by side, so a child who can close one point has a much easier time with the letter that needs three.
The vase is unusually well matched here, since its lower half tapers to a narrow base in the same way the letter does. Tracing it is direct preparation.

Common questions
My child draws the V too wide.
Very common, along with the two lines crossing past each other at the base. A cleanly closed point is one of the later things to arrive and is not worth pushing.
Should V come before W?
Yes. A W is two Vs side by side, so closing one point cleanly makes the letter with three points much less frustrating.
