This is where a lot of children stall, and it is worth knowing why before you sit down with the sheet. Every digit up to now has been one continuous stroke. A 4 is not. The pencil comes down and across, then has to lift, move back up to the top, and come down again in a separate line.
Lifting the pencil and putting it back down in the right place is a genuinely different skill from drawing a shape. It needs the child to hold a plan in mind across a pause. Plenty of four year olds who trace 1, 2 and 3 confidently will produce a 4 with the two strokes in the wrong relationship to each other, because the pause loses them.
If that happens, do the first stroke together, pause, and point to where the second one starts.

Common questions
Why does my child manage 1, 2 and 3 but struggle with 4?

Do the first stroke together, pause deliberately, then point at exactly where the second stroke begins before letting them carry on.
